If Pinellas and St. Pete keep trying to force the Rays' hand, not only will they be without professional baseball eventually, the region will as well! Hopefully the politicians there will start to realize this.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1021348172235346593.post-7941360808663081582015-10-07T12:42:59.178-04:002015-10-07T12:42:59.178-04:00Noah - your assertion that some "Some commiss...Noah - your assertion that some "Some commissioners change stadium tune after election" is just BS... For example, to assert that Janet Long went from a "hands-off" approach to a "we need to step in and do something bc we are hostages" is not entirely as black and white as you make it out to be,

There's no inconsistencies in that approach. Of course, it is up to St Pete to make a decision. And that's the fail. That they have not MADE a decision on the Rays for years now. Everyone involved is actually being held hostage by St Pete city council... from the Rays, to the tax-payers to the county to MLB. And all for what? The Rays want OUT of St Pete and the Trop... it's a shithole... a shithole that needs redeveloping and fast. Personal interests are king. Too many cooks in the kitchen.

No matter if it end-up with a new stadium or a re-location (losing the team but with projects to fill the gap), what is important here is a master plan, a vision of what the region wants/needs. I don't see that. Everyones are looking at the trees but don't see the forest.

And the risk is having investments (no matter what will be the project with the Rays or without the Rays) that will not add any value to the community and the region.

Most of the time, making one step back allow two steps forward (when the step back is done properly). Staying in place without moving is rarely a winning strategy.Patnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1021348172235346593.post-21257760329493317042015-10-07T10:02:01.743-04:002015-10-07T10:02:01.743-04:00The editorial board thinks 2 to 3M or 4M or 5M per...The editorial board thinks 2 to 3M or 4M or 5M per year as compensation for the right to seek a new handout of $500M from a city/county is some kind of financial hardship for a MLB team? How about a NSFW tag on editorials from the editorial board, so that we all know that the Rays/Times relationship is adult content and is suitable only for people 18 and up? Eeesh, that stuff is dirrrty. Have some self-respect.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
