- It's the final week of the Rays' season...so naturally, one of the last great first pitch honors goes to...the chairman of Tampa's city council. No surprise, Tampa's Mayor Bob Buckhorn has probably thrown out more first pitches in St. Petersburg over the past four years than anyone else.
- A local architect has imagined what the Trop site would look like redeveloped...even though the site clearly won't be available anytime soon...
- Wouldn't it be amazing if the Texas Rangers somehow got a stadium before the Rays? There's talk of replacing the stadium in Arlington because nobody is going to see the first-placed team anymore. Something about nobody wanting to go to outdoor baseball games in 90-degree heat.

Romano: "Should the Rays actually leave for Hillsborough, they would pay St. Pete between $2 million and $3 million for every unused season on the Tropicana Field contract."
ReplyDeleteHe knows the compensation for the 2027 season is Zero Dollars, so why does he write that?
"Any new stadium will likely require $300 million to $400 million in public funds, and there are legitimate arguments about whether baseball is worth that type of investment in either county. But we can't even begin that debate — or debates about transit, downtown redevelopment or a host of other issues — until the Rays issue is resolved."
These are not separate debates. Romano essentially says "we cannot begin the Rays issue until the Rays issue is resolved." So he wants the Rays issue to be "resolved" and THEN discuss how much it will cost? Haha, uhhhh, what?
