Forbes: Glazer Worth Up to $4.5 Billion

The bad news for the Glazers: according to the latest Forbes estimates, they're no longer among the 100 richest American families.

The good news for the Glazers: they come in at No. 102 and are now worth an estimated $4.5 billion.

Twelve months ago, Malcolm Glazer & family were ranked at No. 108, worth $3.6 billion.

But just six months ago, the Glazers were the 90th-ranked Americans on the Forbes' world billionares list (No. 286 overall), worth an estimated $4.4 billion.

Since then, the family's estimated value has grown by $100 million, proving even sad football teams are profitable football teams.

  1. Well, though 0-2 (and having not been to the playoffs since 07'), it's not for a lack of the Glazers spending money,

    http://www.businessinsider.com/chart-the-seattle-seahawks-have-largest-payroll-in-the-nfl-2013-8 ,

let's just say there are teams like the Rays, and then there are teams like the Bucs when it comes to spending verse on-field production! Which is more reason why we should give the Rays the benefit of the doubt when it comes to how this "stadium saga" will turn out, and not jump to conclusion without any real facts of the finances of a new ballpark...

    1. Under your theory, if the Rays can succeed without a top payroll, they may not need a new stadium then?

    2. Com'on Noah, really? Why do you always look at everything in that manner? It must be the Bahstun in you, which in my opinion will continue to hold you back from being a better journalist...

Anyways, it's not a "theory", it's truth. And newsflash, one of the only reason we're as successful is because of the high draft picks we had for years, and the (moneyball) we have played since then, not because we're able to spend like YOUR Red Sux. But, to go along w/ your comment, that's like saying, if people are able to live off of 20k a year, then why should companies & businesses pay more? Imagine if the Rays had Red Sox money, and were able to spend double or triple the amount to on team payroll, and please don't casually bring up that they're profitable like you normally do, because who's to say they're not saving up for a ballpark so people like you can eat your words? LOL

As for the Bucs, I just wanted to make the case before your followers before they start bashing the Glazers for having lots of money, and a lackluster team...

    3. If people are living off 20k a year, why should they give money to a multi-million dollar business or a multi-billion dollar industry?

    4. "Well played Noah", lol! As an "investigator" you should already know the answer, in all the conversations with political figures, haven't you ever asked this question to them???
My belief is though there's some cities that get strong armed by great businessmen, and weak politicians where it'll take longer then other deals to make back the money, BUT I would think that if someone did the math that not many cities at all ever lost money in the long run funding a stadium. We're fortunate that our football stadium got to host a few Super Bowls & NCAA Bowl games to help gather more then the amount spent back into our community...
Besides, IDK if your know this Noah, but normally cities own what they "give", then charge the owners fees for the life of the stadium. Which in return pays for a better quality of life for that 20k person like government programs that helps, paves roads around that persons house, pays to send fire trucks to his house if needed for free, etc..
Again, Noah, the bulls-eye isn't the whole target...

    5. Economists look at those things all the time and the ones who are not paid by teams or leagues typically find:
      1) stadiums seldom return on their public investment in tangible revenue;
      2) if all cities refused to subsidize public stadiums, there would be no blackmailing and no threats to move.

  2. The Glazers certainly don't consider the TB Bucs a sad football team. Because of their sweetheart deal with Hillsborough County taxpayers where they pay for less than nothing for the care and feeding of Ray Jay, they have seen the market cap of the team they bought in 1995 for $192 million grow to over $1 billion even though they have had a regular season w-l record (1995 to 2013 to-date) of 142- 148 during their tenure.

    1. I understand your the type of person likes to be "Nancy Negative" about everything (which must suck for those that know you), but newsflash! we the people of Hillsborough county voted to buy OURSELVES a football stadium, and charge Malcolm to use it so we can make money to pay for everything else a normal big city funds...
And like my 1st post on this article stated, the Bucs have the 3rd highest payroll in the NFL, it's not money, it's bad management! Imagine if the Rays had the 3rd highest payroll in baseball, we would probably have the best record in the Majors by 10-15 games...

    2. It was such a good deal, Dufala, that politicians are tripping over themselves to promise "there will never be another sweetheart deal like Raymond James Stadium."

    3. So stating a fact - that the taxpayers of Hillsborough County got bent over for a free stadium for a family of *billionaires* - makes someone a "nancy negative".

Wow, sometimes I think half the reason I come here is to read Dufala's incoherent, insane justifications for continued embezzlement by these pro sports crooks.

    4. Newsflash Paul! No "billionaire" got a "free stadium"! Malcolm doesn't own nothing, we do, you do (if you live in Hills.co.)...
"Wow, sometimes I think half the reason I come here is to read" misinformed peoples (like your Paul) comments. What a shame that most people voted to buy & build a football stadium, and don't realize it, lol...
(Noah) IDK how the percentage of ticket sales, etc. works out, and it sounds like you don't either relative to other "deals" between NFL owners & cities, but to read dumb ass comments that we paid to build Raymond James, never made a dime back, and don't own nothing is wrong, and the sad part about it is that YOU don't know it either. I would suggest Noah, you do some real "investigating" and figure out what some of us already know...

    5. B. Dufala,

Let's up date our records - Malcolm has not been at the helm since 2006 when he had two strokes. Currently, a trio of his talented sons are running the show - Joel, Bryan, and Edward.

And the Glazers are much better off not owning the stadium, because they pay for less than nothing for the care and feeding of RayJay, and in 2026 when the lease is up, they have no compelling reason to continue to hang out in TB, unless of course they can extract further ridiculous concessions from us taxpayers. Yes, they paid for One Buc Place ($30 million), but my guess is even if they get nothing for it, they will be way ahead of the game, if and when these carpet baggers head to their next ATM in another city, state.

    6. "Malcolm" still is the sole owner of the team regardless of who is "running" it...
The Bucs aren't going no where unless Tampa gets hit bad enough by a hurricane or something of such magnitude. I'm just saying before your time is wasted bashing situations, it's factual that Tampa has made money because we bought, built, have, and use Raymond James Stadium...

    7. I'd love to argue with you, but having read most of your other fumbling, incoherent comments, there's not much hope that you're ever going to see the light of truth regarding the idiotic shell game of public theft for these pro-sports palaces.

"Malcolm doesn't own nothing" - that's precisely it, you dolt. He gets a rent-free place to play what, 8 games a year? The other 357 days of the year, it's sitting empty. Or it's having a concert or tractor pull. Wow, GREAT investment for the people of Tampa. And I'm fairly certain he gets a cut of those revenues as well.

He IS a billionaire and he invested a pittance to get a free home that boosted the value of his crappy football team. You're acting like Tampa just had money sitting around with nothing better to do. Never mind that the money usually goes to pay for services or debt or upkeep of the city. You have NO numbers or facts or data to prove that RJ is anything other than a sinkhole for public money.
Do you drive around Tampa complaining about the roads and the poor public service w/o realizing that you're one of the suckers who are making it so bad?

And if it was such a "good deal" for Tampa, they would've held a vote on the tax w/o pairing it with some facile, false "public education" benefit. That was the bit that allowed the tax to be sold to the uninformed public as well as super-fan suckers like you.

Instead you buy the owners line of reasoning that "stadiums = good things". You could bother to do some simple math and add up all the millions and millions of dollars that get frittered away on worthless, empty stadiums, but like i said - thinking rationally doesn't seem to be something you are capable of.

    8. OK, your right, the city of Tampa hasn't & doesn't make any revenue from their football stadium, the people of Tampa has made less money because of it, and Tampa would be a shinier place with greater services for it's people, along with a over flowing bank account if they didn't spend the money on a football venue, and it's the whole Glazer family fault...

  3. The Glazer family gets 'charged' $3.5 million rent per year. They receive $2.3 million per year for the RayJay naming rights and make another $2 million to $3 million per year on non-Bucs events held at RayJay. The Glazer's get a reverse welfare check in total of about $25 million per year from us taxpayers. So who is the 'we' that can make money?

    1. Here, let me channel a typical Dufala response:

      *****
Sorry u think Glazers get a "reverse" welfare chek from us "taxpayers". lol We are making money on the stadium cuz we voted on it and spent money and football games! And Super bowl, World Seriez!

Newsflash what else can Tampa spend money on? Or do u think we should be podunk towns without championship teams like Titussville? You are a Debby downer becuase you probbly cheering for the Red SUX like "NOah"!

I hate all these wealthy people, especially in sports! I hate all of government! Nothing ever works out, and if we didn't have progressive people in Tampa we would be such a greater city! All us little people do is get bent-over, and I only believe what I think, common sense doesn't matter. It's like they always tell me to think on the Glenn Beck, and Hannity shows, negativity is progressive, and things like investing & doing things for a brighter future isn't good, and NEVER works, which is the ONLY reason I comment on this site. Oha, and Noah ROCKS!
